| Mccain Beats Romney In Florida Gop Race
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. MIAMI (AP) - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was running third, and headed for the exits. Officials familiar with events said his aides were in discussions with McCain's advisers on a possible endorsement later in the week. ``It shows one thing. I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party,'' McCain said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. ``It's a very significant boost but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come.'' The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.
Goody's will close store March 31
Goody's Family Clothing will close its store in Sunset Plaza on March 31. Kristin Alm, public relations manager for Goody's, said routine evaluations showed the Enid store wasn't "performing as well" as other stores in the retail chain. The decision to close the store was made earlier in January. Alm said company officials have no plans to re-evaluate the situation and reopen a Goody's in Enid. Employees will be given the opportunity to transfer to another location. Goody's has 13 other stores in Oklahoma, in Ada, Altus, Ardmore, Bartlesville, Chickasha, Duncan, Durant, Lawton, McAlester, Mus-kogee, Ponca City, Stillwater and Tahlequah. According to Alm, no other Oklahoma locations are closing. Goody's store management in Enid declined to comment. The business moved to its current location in Sunset Plaza in November 2002.
Marinelli faces offseason questions
Marinelli confirmed Kitna's status as the No. 1 quarterback. "I mean, he ended up the season the starter, just like Jeff Backus is our starting left tackle," he said. Free agency: Marinelli didn't flinch when asked which positions the franchise will pursue in the free-agent market. First on the list is running back due to the uncertain status of injured starter Kevin Jones for the second offseason in a row. "Yeah, it's kind of like we were last year at the same time. It's exactly the same. We've got some holes there," Marinelli said. He also stressed the need to acquire defensive help and a right tackle. Shaun Rogers: It's clear the coach hasn't given up on the frustrating defensive tackle, who's overweight and lacks the stamina to play hard for a full 16-game schedule.
Dec 28th
Well, it's almost time for me to head off to Australia. Tomorrow, actually, but this might be my last chance to get in a blog before then. I will try to blog while there but won't promise. Christmas is over and it was quite a pleasant one. My son visited from Las Vegas and he said he had a good time. It looks like he is set on going back to college full time to qualify as an accountant. He did one class last semester and got an A, so it looks like he should do OK in that field. He has quite a bit of money coming to him for education from the time he spent in the United States Air Force; at least enough for about two years of college. We spent Christmas Eve morning at my wife's parents then headed to Pensacola Beach, Florida to where my wife's sister and family live. Lots of gifts were handed around and we all ate and drank too much.
Travelers may stay closer to home in '08
When there's a slowdown in the economy, travel only slows slightly," said Douglas Shifflet of D.K. Shifflet & Associates, which tracks travel trends. "The amount of time people spend on vacations and in hotels is hit harder. They make tradeoffs; they stay closer to home or with friends and relatives." "They'll look for other ways to save, like taking a day or two off of their trip," agreed Amy Ziff, Travelocity editor-at-large. International hot spots for '08 include Beijing; Central America; Italy, Eastern Europe and Lisbon, Portugal. But domestic travel could benefit from the weak dollar and other trends. Visits to national parks were up 1.3 percent, January-September 2007, compared to the previous year, with Yosemite and Yellowstone adding more than a quarter-million visitors.

Bottled Water Boycotts: Back-to-the-Tap Movement Gains Momentum
From San Francisco to New York to Paris, city governments, high-class restaurants, schools, and religious groups are ditching bottled water in favor of what comes out of the faucet. With people no longer content to pay 1,000 times as much for bottled water, a product no better than water from the tap, a backlash against bottled water is growing. The U.S. Conference of Mayors, which represents some 1,100 American cities, discussed at its June 2007 meeting the irony of purchasing bottled water for city employees and for city functions while at the same time touting the quality of municipal water. The group passed a resolution sponsored by Mayors Gavin Newsom of San Francisco, Rocky Anderson of Salt Lake City, and R. T. Rybak of Minneapolis that called for the examination of bottled water's environmental impact.
