| Workers arrested at O'Hare in alleged fake ID scheme
More than 20 workers were arrested today at O'Hare International Airport after authorities said employees at a suburban staffing agency used fraudulent security badges to gain access to unauthorized areas of the airport.
Many of the workers arrested were illegal immigrants, authorities said.
The eight-month investigation led to the execution of a search warrant today at Ideal Staffing Solutions, 170 N. Pine Lane in Bensenville, and the arrests of two managers there: Mary Gurin, 36, of Carpentersville, and Norinye Benitez, 24, of Franklin Park, according to a statement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Bush White House is seriously considering making Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne the next administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. In today's Idaho Statesman, Wayne Hoffman quotes Kempthorne saying he "would have to consider" any offer from the president. That means he wants the job. Kempthorne also said that he's been in periodic contact with White House staffers about the job. The Wall Street Journal's "Washington Wire" column predicted July 18 that Bush would wait until the Senate recess before announcing Kempthorne as his choice. The recess began Friday. If it is Kempthorne, Bush will have made a comically anti-environmental choice. During six years in the Senate in the 1990s, Kempthorne scored a "0" on the League of Conservation Voters' legislative scorecards every year except 1993, when Kempthorne scored 6 percent on the basis of one little-remembered vote against funding a rocket booster for the space program that environmentalists judged harmful to the environment.
Possible commercial real estate boom hinges on economy's strength
When it comes to commercial real estate, Orlando is among the 10 top markets in the country to watch in 2008, according to Sperry Van Ness, one of the nation's largest commercial real estate brokerages.
In its 2008 forecast, the company notes that Orlando has "distinct dynamics that helped it rise into this elite class" of cities and regions that show "the greatest potential."
Sperry, which recently opened an Orlando office, projects that industrial rents in the local market should rise an above-average 3.19 percent in 2008, to $5.18 per square foot a year, as vacancies continue to shrink.

Holocaust Museum founder Lerman dies
Miles Lerman, who fought against the Nazis in Poland and later helped found the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., has died. He was 88. Lerman's wife, Rosalie, confirmed Wednesday that he died Tuesday at his home in Philadelphia. Lerman was a member of a prosperous family whose flour mills were seized by the Nazis. Lerman escaped from a slave labor camp and fought the Nazis with other partisans for nearly two years in the forests of Poland. "Our job was to raise havoc, to raise hell with them and survive," he once told The Philadelphia Inquirer. Lerman and his wife immigrated to New York City in 1947. He worked as a grocery warehouse clerk in Brooklyn, N.Y., then had a chicken farm in Vineland, N.J. He later started a home heating oil business that grew into a major distributorship, and invested in real estate.
