| Jury seated in Myers’ first-degree murder trial
A jury was seated and trial got under way in Bradley County Criminal Court Tuesday for Scotty Lee Myers. Myers Myers is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Pamela Jo Lane in May 2007. Five male and seven female jurors were selected to hear the case. Assistant district attorney general Stephen Hatchett is serving as lead prosecutor, with 10th Judicial District Attorney General Steve Bebb in second chair.. Hatchett's opening statements included premeditation factors encompassing an alleged embezzlement in early 2007 in which the couple was accused. But now, as search engines become more specialized and capable, certain copyright owners have become increasingly dissatisfied with the notice-and-takedown bargain struck in the DMCA. That's what these lawsuits are really about -- the defendants are complying with the letter of the law, but copyright owners are now trying to change the rules in court. Of course, the SeeqPod case may settle (as a similar case brought by Warner against iMeem did). But the copyright issues will not be going away anytime soon (in particular, keep your eye on the remand in the Perfect 10 v. Google case, where the DMCA safe harbor issues may take center stage). In Fla., age is an issue for McCain
THE VILLAGES, Fla. - On the final weekend before the Florida Republican primary, John McCain went after a key element of his political base: people his age and older. The 71-year-old senator from Arizona visited this upscale central Florida retirement community yesterday. He had spoken at another one, Sun City Center, the day before. In both cases, the crowds were large, the reception warm. "I have no problem with his age; I got smarter as I got older," said Richard Hunsicker, 81, a retired computer executive who says he plans to vote for McCain tomorrow. "You get to know a lot more if you keep going. That's one reason I can't see this Barack Obama. He's so green." McCain would be the oldest incoming president in American history. By Inauguration Day, he would be two years and five months older than Ronald Reagan was on taking office in 1981.
Dear Panhinda and lucky.
Anyway, I was thinking of buying a bike for myself for exercise purposes. A recondition mountain bike sells between 12,000 and 20,000 depending on options. A basic 'poor man' bicycle is around Rs 8,000. So, you must be able to fork out quite a capital to buy the poor man's vehicle. Now, these are the types of industries that we can probably have in Sri Lanka. It would probably generate employment while at the same time lowering the prices. .
In Aliquippa and other Rust Belt cities, drugs moved in as steel moved ...
ALIQUIPPA — Amid the bleak, run-down brick buildings, drug dealers drive around in shiny SUVs, Cadillacs and convertibles, the sun glinting off their chrome-plated spinning hubs.Drugs and money are exchanged on street corners. Addicts crash in crack houses, some of them right downtown. Gunfights erupt between drug dealers jealously guarding their territory. Rival gangs — the L’s and the G’s — deal the crack that flows into this riverfront town from New Jersey, New York, Detroit and Washington. In Rust Belt cities like Aliquippa, drugs moved in after steel moved out.In 10 of 14 Rust Belt towns in six states surveyed by The Associated Press, all with populations of 30,000 or less, drug-related arrests more than doubled in the past 15 to 20 years, even as the number of residents declined in every community. The closing of the mills and factories in the industrial Midwest and the layoff of thousands of workers created "a niche in the economy for drug dealing," said Rick Matthews, a professor of sociology and criminal justice at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
Uplift at the SAG Awards
They did, too, and not just your familiar stunners like Vanessa Williams, Diane Lane and a younger-than-springtime Tom Cruise. Ellen Burstyn, 75, seemed as fresh and buoyant and prominently apple-cheeked as she did three decades ago in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Ruby Dee is 82, and has been in movies (and a lot of places more important, like the civil rights struggle) for 60 years. But when her brief role in American Gangster made her a surprise winner of the supporting actress award sorry, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role she glided on stage to display all the class and radiance of a perennial American beauty. And Julie Christie, who took the Most Notable Movie Thesping by a Person of the Female Persuasion prize for Away from Her, looked preternaturally glamorous at 66.
Rochdale 5 - 27 Stockport
The hosts had their hands full from the opening stages as the visitors quickly opened up a 12-point lead with two well-taken tries. Both scores came from Rochdale errors, the first when they lost the ball in the tackle, the second when they missed a tackle. Stockport are far too alert to miss opportunities like those, and with the home defence failing to get its alignment right the visitors had little problem breaching the defensive line. The well drilled Stockport side quickly snuffed out a series of Rochdale attacks by reorganising their defensive line. Even when Rochdale camped on the Stockport line they couldn't break down a resolute defence. The hosts offered some aggressive defence and put in some powerful tackles.
