Coldwell Banker Office Owner Files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

During the slow real estate market, only the strong survive. A residential real estate broker recently closed its doors in the South Bay area. Joel Forral, owner of Coldwell Banker Alliance in Chula Vista, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the federal bankruptcy court in San Diego in September.

In Chapter 7 or liquidation bankruptcy, the debtor turns over all nonexempt property to a trustee, who sells it for the benefit of creditors. According to court documents, Forral listed liabilities in excess of $6.38 million and assets of $2.4 million. His filing indicated that he owes personal and business taxes, as well as money to utilities linked to Coldwell Banker Alliance, franchise fees and money for advertising expenses.

David Siroty, a spokesman at the Coldwell Banker corporate offices in Parsippany, N.J., says the company was told in midsummer that Forral sought legal counsel on closing his franchise.

Fleisher gets new perspective

Bruce Fleisher admits he once scoffed whenever he heard some of his Champions Tour elders discuss various aches and pains. Not anymore, though.''I always thought it sounded like an excuse,'' said Fleisher, returning to his Palm Beach Gardens home from a practice session earlier this week. ``Now it's real. It hits home.''An injury-marred offseason has offered Fleisher, 59, new perspective on golf's aging process. First came tendinitis in his left forearm. Then while getting a magnetic resonance imaging exam on the arm, he strained his right shoulder. Now the shoulder's healed, but the forearm hurts again. And though Fleisher still plans to tee it up at next week's Allianz Championship, the 18-time Champions winner has no idea how much rust he can knock off by then.''It's ongoing,'' he said. ``You rest and hope the thing's going to heal itself, but it doesn't.

Ark.-Little Rock beats Florida Atlantic, 80-76

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.: Mike Smith scored a season-high 18 points to lead Arkansas-Little Rock to a 80-76 win Sunday night over Florida Atlantic.

Smith accounted for six points of the Trojans' 13-0 run on Florida Atlantic in the second half to keep the lead for the remainder of the game. However, Arkansas-Little Rock (14-6, 6-3 Sun Belt) couldn't pull too far away in the end as the Owls kept the score tight with a final basket with 12 seconds remaining.

With Sunday's win, the Trojans are a game ahead of Louisiana-Lafayette for first place in the Sun Belt's West Division.

Carderro Nwoji led Florida Atlantic (7-14, 3-7) with 17 points and seven rebounds. The Owls shot 44 percent from the floor, compared to the Trojans 54 percent shooting.

Getting Past ‘Oh!’: Why Americans Misunderestimate the Depravity ...

After multiple investigations over the last century, it is still unclear whether the USS Maine sunk as a result of a mine or an accidental internal explosion, and that lack of clarity alone should have been enough to prevent the war. What is completely clear, however, is that appetent imperialists and yellow journalists were hungry for the war, so much so that they succeeded in bringing it about, including ugly extended fighting in the Philippines against the anti-colonialist guerillas whom the Americans were supposed to be there liberating. Indeed, so great was the manufactured pressure for war that President McKinley, who didn't want to fight it, was ultimately forced to do so.

Then there's Vietnam, the lies surrounding which could fill a library. Here, we have documentary evidence beyond question of these fabrications, supplied via the bravery of Daniel Ellsberg and his colleagues.
